Per Un Pugno Di Euro, 2007
with Kristina Paustian and Martina Schöne-Radunski
Photographs, and Live Performance Video
Photography 200 x 145 cm.
The 2007 audiovisual creation is a high-definition masterpiece, lasting exactly 9 minutes and offering dialogue-free stereo sound. It shows the self-portrait of Shahram Entekhabi, an Iranian-German artist who has lived in Europe for almost four decades. Through this performance, the artist explores the complex and multifaceted nature of self and other perception, as well as fundamental themes of visibility and recognition. By assuming the roles of stereotypical migrant figures, the artist seeks to confront society with a reflection on its negative and misguided attitudes towards chauvinism, terrorism and crime.
In Per un pugno di euro, a living sociological study, three artists - Shahram Entekhabi, Kristina Paustian and Martina Schoene-Radunski - embark on a journey to explore the nomadic lifestyle. You leave your cozy accommodation and venture into the unknown with a few euros in your pocket. The trio's personality comes alive through musical performances of the traditional Russian folk song Black Eye which they carry.
Per un pugno di euro is not just a self-reflective display of artificial self-awareness. The project stands for a broader cultural narrative that focuses on the societal changes being driven by eastward enlargement. With a newfound ease of crossing European borders, becomes the urban landscape has transformed into a melting pot of diverse individuals. This project captures the evolving societal dynamic and serves as an emblematic reflection of the period.
